My boyfriend, Jack Mayson, and I recently tried Brother Fox for the first time on my birthday, and we absolutely loved it! When you first walk into the restaurant, you get a groovy vibe with a calming and zen feel. Upon taking our seats, our server greeted us and took our drink orders while we perused the menu. We didn’t know where to start, the menu was so pleasantly different from typical fare at other local restaurants.

Our server returned, and we were ready to make our choices. The mushroom tartar came highly recommended by a friend, and I am a sucker for anything from the fungi kingdom. When the tartar hit the table, it included beets with a slightly smoky taste. An olive oil pesto surrounded the dish, and we were surprised at how good it was.

We chose another appetizer for our second course, the low country boil “a la Espana,” which knocked our socks off. They presented the boil in a little silver pot, which was just enough for two. It had four Gulf shrimp, four fingerling potatoes, two tiny charred corn on the cob pieces, some Spanish chorizo, and bread for dipping in the delicious sauce.

All of the entrées looked wonderful, and we settled on sharing the pork chop. This 16 oz bone-in duroc pork chop is phenomenal. It was juicy, tender, and charred to perfection. It came with whipped mashed potatoes and broccolini, all topped with a pork jus demi glaze.  It was mouth-wateringly delicious, and nothing was left on our plate but the bone.

After successfully joining the “clean plate club,” as Mom would say, we pondered whether we had room for dessert. Our server wouldn’t let us slip away without hearing what they had prepared that evening. We couldn’t resist the bread pudding as she ran down the list. After all, it was the chef's special made with banana bread topped with fresh blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries, with three dollops of grenache on the side, two of which were chocolate and one peanut butter! It was what dessert dreams are made of!

Brother Fox is a must-try new Pensacola gem. We will be back and look forward to exploring other menu offerings! Another fun fact about Brother Fox is that the wood-burning grill on the back patio has influenced every single item. It is worth checking out.  Chef Darian Hernandez and the Brother Fox staff have it going on! It was a fantastic birthday celebration! Thank you, Jack and Brother Fox!
