When you go to a restaurant that has been around for a while, your expectations are set and you know what you’re in for. At the Wash House in Point Clear, you always expect a great ambiance, very good food, and terrific service. It’s fine dining in a cozy atmosphere with a nice offering of Southern coastal cuisine. The Wash House is a strong choice for any occasion. In addition to the main dining and bar area, it has two dining areas to accommodate larger parties such as rehearsal dinners, family affairs, or corporate groups.

With close friends in town, we reserved seats at the bar to enjoy a meal and watch the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. Paige runs the bar and is our go-to guide for drinks and menu choices. She’s never steered us wrong, and we usually go with whatever she recommends. Sometimes we order a platter of fried oysters to start, while we contemplate our entrée choices.

After a well-mixed Old Fashioned, we ordered Oyster Lettuce Wraps with a good buttermilk drizzle and enjoyed it while we caught up with the tennis match. A couple of close points later, two of us went for the special; Freshly caught Tripletail, Parmesan risotto, and fresh veggies plus we split the wedge with green goddess dressing. Oh my! It was delicious paired with a nice glass of Pinot Noir. We were set.

Others in our group ordered several appetizers, the shrimp stack, crab cakes, and a cup of seafood gumbo. It was the real deal with shrimp, crab, crawfish, sausage, and okra. The best presentation award went to the bone-in pork chop. Served with a sweet potato mash, Brussels sprouts, and onion straws, it looked divine. Zeb has a hard time passing up the Lamb Chops, which were perfect.

We’ve known Paige for quite a while, and she kept us entertained as we watched Serena play her final game in the U.S. Open. On an endnote, this was also the wind down for the summer menu. I can’t wait to see what they have on the menu for Fall. This week, it all changed. We need to get back to the Wash House soon. Again, a change of seasons is welcomed!
