After a long day touring the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta with friends from Tuscaloosa last week, we were tired and hungry. Luckily, we had planned and made reservations at Char 32 Restaurant and Bar located at the Point Clear Swim and Tennis Club. It is such a popular dining spot that reservations are required.

Char 32 has a simple menu with something for everyone, and they excel at preparing what comes out of the kitchen. The steaks are truly exceptional served “Pittsburgh-style” with a “char” that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Their fish dishes are freshly served over a delicious set up of rice or a vegetable and usually topped with something yummy, like sauteed crab meat.

The Lamb Lollipops are one of my favorite appetizers, but everything is so good, it’s tough to decide what to enjoy. Each time we go, we order the marinated crab claws served with a perfect house-made toast crostini to help accentuate the incredible sauce. They also feature a regional twist on South Indies Salad and a Roasted Duck Breast.

On this particular night, our cocktails were perfect while we made our decisions. I can’t pass up the crab bisque. Dinner comes with a fresh salad of your choice and either baked potato or fries. All of their sides, like creamed spinach and sauteed mushrooms, complement each entrée. We shared a very nice bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and left happy and thoroughly satisfied.

Weather permitting, Char 32 has a nice, covered patio overlooking the tennis courts for dining outside as well as a private room for larger parties, or you can dine at the bar. Daneen Buck does a great job. Our friends were blown away by the food and are ready to go back.  So are we!
