Last week we made a quick trip to Grayton Beach, Florida with friends. It’s an easy two-and-a-half-hour drive from Fairhope. This time of year is our favorite time to visit and two days is never enough. The weather was perfect, and the crowds were easily managed. That first night's sunset was spectacular!

With three couples, we decided to get outside during the day and stay home at night. We had three dogs in tow, so we ventured down to walk the trails in Watercolor and stopped by The Wine Bar. This has become somewhat of a staple with this group. The dogs are welcome and accommodated with fresh water.

We like sitting outside and watching the walkers and cyclists go by, and the food and drink offerings are just right. Soups, salads, sandwiches, and pizza are the lunch features with a couple of daily specials from which to choose. The service at The Wine Bar is always great. If you need to pick up a few bottles of wine to take home, their selection is excellent. After our long walk and biking, this was a perfect spot to relax and take in all that 30-A has to offer.

The next day, we made a noon reservation for an outside table at The Vue on 30-A. The Vue sits on a high dune bluff overlooking the Gulf. They have a wonderful outdoor dining area with nice views as well as an inside dining room with large windows. Reservations are recommended as this is a private club and members get priority seating.

Our server was experienced and knew the menu well. It all sounded good, but she convinced three of us to go with the bacon cheeseburger made with blended chuck, brisket, and short rib. “The best burger in the whole area,” she said. We were not disappointed! The crab cake salad was excellent with lots of crab meat and very little filler. We started with the shrimp and crab dip appetizer served with homemade toasted pita chips, soft and plump. It was delicious!

The girls got in a little shopping, some more walking, and one last sunset before we headed back to Fairhope. That’s not terrible either, but I always enjoy my time along 30-A this time of year. We left a lot of great dining options on the table for our next trip!
